The title of this artwork is quoted from part of a Tokyo resident’s response to my Youkobo Art Space residency questionnaire. The full quote: “I have a big cactus, because I need some green in my house. I named it Saboko.”
The pared back simplicity of this work reflects the interiors I saw in Japan. Here I have imagined the big cactus – Saboko – as I didn’t see it.
