Created for HOTA to coincide with the opening of HOTA Gallery 2021

For Nicola Moss, the 2020 global event of COVID-19 brought into renewed focus her relationship with nature, and in particular, her home on the northern Gold Coast. Observing the elements of the natural world that were occurring around her, Moss created a series of collage paintings that speak to notions of community and belonging. Through several of the works is a horizon line of hills, a landmark of sorts viewed from within the area and from further afield. Hoop Pine and dryland rainforest trees are depicted, along with elements from Moss’s formal and vegetable garden.
